Escapism

Run away from the pain.

Drink the pain away.

Work the pain away.

Celebrate survival.

Food has become more than fuel.

We indulge in distractions.

We run away from the pain.

We run away from ourselves.

We eat to feel satisfied with our lives.

The discomfort is excruciating.

We cannot sit with ourselves for a moment and face reality.

We would like a sweet escape —

The rush and high of pleasure.

We indulge in pleasure to run away from pain.

We run away from the truth.

Captivating sensations so alluring ;

Antidote or anthesis?

Anything to cope

Representations of our desensitization,

Figures trying to figure it out,

With blurred vision.

Anything to separate me from myself.

A placeholder to hold space for the emotions

I hide that later latch on to my body

like a parasite

sucking the earth out of me,

until I am forced to numb myself with escape.

I bandage them so as not to burden my life.

I don’t have time to feel I need money.

Repressed emotions linger and haunt me.

My shadow is lurking behind me.
